A straightforward guide to choosing between treatments for firmness, texture, pigmentation, dehydration and general skin maintenance.
If you know what you would like to improve but have no idea which treatment to book, you are not alone. HIFU, RF microneedling, skin boosters, IPL and chemical peels all work differently. The right choice depends on your main concern, your skin type, the amount of downtime you can manage and whether you want a gradual change or a quicker skin refresh.
At iBeautify in Royal Tunbridge Wells, every treatment plan starts with a consultation. This allows us to assess your skin properly, discuss your medical history and previous treatments, and recommend an option that is suitable for you. There is no single treatment that is best for everyone, so the most useful place to start is with the change you would most like to see.
Start with your main skin concern
It is tempting to choose a treatment because it is popular online, but the same concern can have several different causes. For example, a softer jawline may be related to skin laxity, facial volume changes or localised fat. Each would need a different approach. The guide below explains the treatments we are most likely to discuss for common concerns, but it does not replace an individual assessment.
| Your main concern | Treatment to ask about | What it is designed to address |
|---|---|---|
| Loss of firmness around the jawline or neck | HIFU | Deeper support and gradual improvement in firmness and definition |
| Fine lines, enlarged pores, uneven texture or acne scarring | Microneedling or RF microneedling | Skin texture and collagen remodelling at controlled depths |
| Dehydrated, crepey or tired-looking skin | Skin boosters | Hydration, elasticity and general skin quality without adding facial volume |
| Sun damage, age spots, thread veins or general redness | IPL skin rejuvenation | Visible pigment and vascular concerns after skin assessment and patch testing |
| Dullness, congestion or uneven surface tone | Professional facial peel | Controlled exfoliation selected for the skin concern and skin type |
| A refreshed appearance with little or no downtime | Hydrafacial, bespoke facial or LED | Cleansing, hydration and supportive skin maintenance |
HIFU for firmness and facial definition
High intensity focused ultrasound, usually shortened to HIFU, delivers energy beneath the surface of the skin to deeper support layers. At iBeautify it is used for areas such as the brow, jawline, lower face and neck when the aim is a firmer, more defined contour without injectables or surgery.
HIFU results develop gradually rather than overnight. It may suit someone with mild to moderate skin laxity who understands that a non-surgical treatment cannot reproduce the result of surgery. It will not be the right answer for every facial shape or every cause of heaviness around the lower face, which is why assessment matters.
Microneedling for texture, pores and scarring
Microneedling creates controlled microchannels in the skin to support its natural renewal response. It may be considered for fine lines, enlarged pores, uneven texture and some types of acne scarring. Standard and advanced microneedling are available, and the treatment depth is selected according to the area and concern.
RF microneedling adds controlled radiofrequency energy at precise depths. This makes it particularly useful when texture and firmness need to be addressed together. Temporary redness and sensitivity can occur afterwards, and some people will benefit from a course rather than a single treatment. The safest plan depends on skin type, the condition being treated and how the skin responds.
Skin boosters for hydration and crepey skin
Skin boosters are injectable treatments intended to improve hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality. Unlike dermal fillers, they are not primarily used to change facial shape or replace a specific area of lost volume. They may be considered for tired, dehydrated or crepey skin on areas including the face, neck, décolletage and hands.
iBeautify offers Profhilo, Sunekos and polynucleotide treatments. These products are not interchangeable, so the recommendation should be based on your skin, treatment area and goals rather than choosing a product name before consultation. As with any injectable treatment, suitability, risks, aftercare and the expected treatment course should be discussed first.
IPL or a peel for pigmentation and uneven tone
IPL skin rejuvenation and professional peels can both be used when uneven colour is the main concern, but they work in different ways. Intense pulsed light targets visible pigment and blood vessels within the skin. At iBeautify it may be considered for sun damage, age spots, thread veins, rosacea and general redness. IPL is not suitable for every skin tone or medical history, so a skin assessment and patch test are required before treatment.
A professional peel works closer to the skin's surface through controlled exfoliation. Different peel formulations can be selected for concerns such as dullness, congestion, pigmentation, fine lines and uneven texture. The word peel does not always mean heavy shedding or long downtime. The strength and formulation should be matched to the skin rather than chosen solely by the name of the treatment.
Facials and LED for maintenance and a skin refresh
Sometimes the aim is simply to look fresher, improve hydration or prepare the skin for an event without significant downtime. Options such as Hydrafacial, carboxytherapy, LED light therapy and iBeautify's bespoke facials may be more appropriate than an intensive treatment.
A Hydrafacial combines water-based cleansing, exfoliation, gentle suction and hydrating serums. LED uses selected wavelengths of light and can be offered alone or alongside other skin treatments when calming and recovery support may be helpful. A bespoke facial allows the treatment steps to be selected after seeing how the skin presents on the day.
Can treatments be combined?
Yes, but more treatment at once is not automatically better. Some concerns sit at different depths, so a planned sequence may be more useful than relying on one method. For example, a plan might address pigmentation first and texture later, or combine a course of clinic treatments with a consistent home skincare routine.
Treatments also need enough time between sessions for the skin to recover and for results to be assessed. Your plan should take account of holidays, sun exposure, special events, medication and any previous reactions. Combining treatments should always be based on clinical suitability, not simply convenience.
What happens at an iBeautify consultation?
During your consultation we will discuss what is bothering you, what result would feel realistic and how much downtime you can manage. We will also review relevant medical history, medication, previous procedures and your current skincare. If a treatment is unsuitable, or another option is more likely to meet your goals, we will explain why.
You do not need to arrive knowing the name of the treatment you want. Bring your questions and tell us what you would like to improve. We can then build a plan around your skin rather than trying to fit your skin around a treatment.
